Of Aims & Aspirations ..

Our goals .. and it's intricacies

The natural order of things ..
Have some clearly defined rules ...

... You could jump all you want ...
But you would never reach the moon ...

She's merely just another goal ...
you might reach there @ the end of the day

What you would do once you get there ...
that's perhaps the thing you need to say ...

Too much importance do we put,
to where we land up tomorrow ...

Too little emphasis do we put,
on what we are expected to do there...

Sometimes life seems at a dead end ..
With things hardly going your way ...

You wait for the right moment ...
while the opportunity steathily slips away ...

You are not a mere mortal ..
ought to get that in your soul ....

The thing is, my good friend ..
what would you do .. when you reach your goal !?

Reflections : A Deep Longing .....

Reflections ....

He looks longingly past the window ...
his fantasy glittering on 4 wheels ...

... She is indeed a ravishing beauty ...
her body messmerizingly stunning steel

If only he would possess her ..
he would be the pride of the masses

a lifetime on the road with her ...
he would reject all heavenly passes

His thoughts serenading him such ..
he notices something else ...

Reflected upon the same window ..
he sees an ordinary man ...

No prince was he,
his cycle revealing his state...

A tattered bag on his shoulder ..
he reflects on his damned fate

A life with her seems impossible ....
as he returns to pedal his cycle ...

a final look at the beauty for now...

some other day ..some other day
just not today ... not today ...

Rakshabandhan - A brother's gift ..

In Dedication --- to my sisters

I am well aware, my dear sister …
Of what this Rakhee means to you.
The trader perhaps priced it at premium
For a brother, it's significance, beyond value.

Our relation, beyond mere blood lines.
Trust & respect .. Those things we treasure
I wish you the best of times, oh sister of mine
Hope, Happiness & love ... beyond measure

You would never ask for any presents, I know ..
The world too small & such gifts so few
I am but a poor soul; love, my only coin …
My promise remains ...  to be there for you.

That lady by my side ...

The 'lady' ....

She is but a young thing ...
That lady you see by my side ...
Her teethes just about milking ..
her tiny hands waving the wind aside ...

She trusts me beyond doubt, I gather ....
Shrieks of joy when I throw her up miles high in the air ...
A trust implicit .. she's after all my lovely daughter ...
That cackle of laughter & her beautiful wind swept hair !!

I am fairly a stubborn man ,
My rigidity the stuff of legends ..
and all she needs for me to dance around ..
is simply by poking my belly button !!!!!

A Doctor's lament ....

Through the eyes of those healers ....

My journey through the hospital alley ...

revealed a few intimate things ..

That cute little girl by the window ..

Her voice melodious as she sings ...

It's a little birthday song for her brother ..

thin as a needles, bald as an egg shell ...

And as the lady sang her heart out ..

we , mere mortals, watched mesmerized by her spell..

Her song ends in a fascinating flurry ..

a lovely kiss on her brother's head ...

His eyes masking his sorrow ..  ...

The haunting image of a tragically forlorn 'bed' ..

She's made peace with herself ...

her brother courageous in his sad smile ...

He gives her a heart-warming hug ...

Something she's been waiting for a long while ..

I bring her a bunch of Roses ...

slightly smashed.. I painfully confess...

She accepts them with an endearing embrace ...

Her radiance breathing life in those flowers

I take her readings ..perhaps for a final time ...

Her eyes  keen on me  .. awareness of the same ...

She asks me if I would like to hear a joke ..

The least I could do for the lovely  dame.

She vaults into her humor, chipering all the while ....

And her jokes ..  As radiant as her lovely smile.

My Daughter's ridiculous voice

A voice unfettered by the sound ... their value much above mere pounds....

My daughter had a ridiculous voice ...
a confession I hate to make ...
She wanted to sing in the annual convention..
an embarassing task, I wished she didn't take ...

Despite my sincerest objection ...
she talked out her way to the stage ...
I remember  figuring out an escape route ..
ohh!!! couldn't she wait till she would graduate ..

A single parent was I ,
grimly aware of  the possible taunts ..
I solemnly led her to the platform ...
her rivals best in their abilities to flaunt ..

My heart starts to flounder ..
her humiliation almost certain
I resolve  to lend her a comforting shoulder ..
hope to ease her unwanted burden..

and then she starts singing ..
her voice no longer ridiculous ..
she searches past the last row ...
her eyes locked on me in intent ..

She sings of her father ...
the best thing in her life ...
Off all the nights he looked after her ..
how he raised her despite the strife ...

It's 3 years past that night ..
I sing the same song by her grave ...
.
And as she goes down underneath
I start losing my controlled poise
My heart yearning just once more..
for the melody of my daughter's ridiculous voice

The Keeping of promises

True Love's lament ..

You remember those times, don't you ..?
the first day we met by the coffe house ...
I, with all those nerdy glasses ..
& you  .. with those pristine smiles ...

that day I asked you out for a date ...
Your mom hiding well her irritation ..
& your dad emphasizing in earnest ..
The dire consequence of being late ...

that memorable day by the aisle ...
You in that be lovely dress ..
and me ...  a dork headlost in love ...

You would perhaps remember ....
the minutest times we had ...
all those plans we made ...
for the 2 little children we would have ...

You would remember, I am certain
the day you took on that tumor ...
how you promised you would be back ...
all hearty & healthy again ...

Your promise .. remained in vain ..
you didn't come back ..
Our daughter  left alone with me ...
& I lost all alone on the track ..

You would remember today is her wedding
She is as beautiful as you were ...
I did my best, as I promised ..
If only, you would be here ... if only you remembered ...
